Decentering
the Field of
Black Studies

Presented by the McCord Museum, the exhibition by Michaëlle Sergile, an independent artist and curator working mainly with archives from the post-colonial period, from 1950 to the present day, pays tribute to the lives of black women in Montreal from 1870 to 1910. In To All the Unnamed Women, her first solo exhibition in a museum context, Sergile blends archives and fiction, where her work bears witness to the origins of the first collective created by black women in Quebec, the CWCM.
