Decentering
the Field of
Black Studies

From October 19th to December 1st 2024

An exhibition by Marie-Danielle Duval presented as part of Diane Gistal’s curator-in-residence program.

This solo exhibition by artist Marie-Danielle Duval is a continuation of her work in response to the historical invisibilization and devaluation of black femininity. Inspired by the writings of bell hooks, a major figure in afro-feminist thought, Cultiver l’amour explores the concept of radical love. The works presented question the healing and transformative power of love in an Afro-feminist context, and invite reflection on the importance of caring for oneself and others, and building healthy, emancipatory relationships.

The exhibition is presented at the Maison de la culture Marie-Uguay, 6052 Monk Blvd.
Montréal (Québec) H4E 3H6. Admission is free.
